Providing quality education for children from rural areas, inspired by the vision of freedom fighter Thyagi NV Kandasamy.
From LKG to Grade 5
Vaikai Academy was founded by Thyagi NV Kandasamy, a dedicated Indian independence activist and recipient of the Tamarai Pattayam for his contributions to the nation’s freedom struggle. Driven by a vision to make quality education accessible to rural communities, he sought to uplift society through learning. Today, his granddaughters proudly carry forward his legacy, empowering 120+ students from low-income agricultural and wage-labor families with unwavering commitment.

At Vaikai Academy, we believe that education extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. Our curriculum, for Kindergarten through Grade 5, is designed to nurture the intellect, spirit and character of every child.
Our primary program focuses on building a strong foundation, bridging the gap between early-childhood play and formal logic. We focus on sensory-based learning, phonics and social-emotional development with a transition into literacy, numeracy and environmental sciences.
We place equal weight on what happens outside the textbook. Our "whole child" approach ensures physical, creative and social skills are nurtured simultaneously. We integrate visual and performing arts to build confidence and cultivate teamwork and resilience through fitness education.
Vaikai Academy is a family. We celebrate milestones and festivals deeply rooted in our values and traditions, teaching students about heritage, and giving back to society. By balancing academics with vibrant extra-curricular life, our students grow into well-rounded, empathetic individuals.
Our AFS program provides enriching opportunities that enhance our core academics. Students can explore Bharatanatyam, Karate, Chess and Abacus, with Music to be introduced soon.
We are thrilled to introduce our school farm into the curriculum this upcoming year. This hands-on initiative is more than just a garden; it is a laboratory. Students will grow their own crops, learning responsibility, patience with natural cycles and building a deep, first-hand respect for the earth and the source of their food.
Computer Science is now being introduced for Grades 3–5, in order to enable students to build on their digital skills. This addition seeks to bolster their logical thinking, problem-solving skills, thus preparing them for an increasingly technology-driven world.
While we remain dedicated to quality education, resource limitations make it difficult to fully support every aspect of our school’s operations. We serve children from rural, low-income families, many of whom depend on irregular incomes from daily wage labor, farming and masonry. While we strive to keep education affordable, our current fee structure leaves us with a critical funding gap.
This directly impacts our ability to hire enough teachers, maintain facilities and provide a safe, clean and supportive environment for our students—especially younger children who require additional care and supervision.
With your support, we can bridge this gap. By sponsoring a child or contributing to our school, you help us provide quality education, better facilities and a nurturing environment for every student. Together, we can empower these children to build a brighter future.
